  1. There was a huge monster movie craze back then. You could buy bubble gum cards with monster pics on them. Kids traded monster cards.
On Saturday night in most US cities with tv stations they ran horror flicks at 11:30PM.
Roman must have figured a vampire pic could make money. I didn't like his movie because it was weird.

  3. Thanks, Venus! Where do you find these things? MrPoirot, I remember those horror movie Saturday nights well. This past Saturday, in fact, TCM ran Night of the Living Dead. Much better movie than FVK.

  4. I think most towns still have those late night horror films. they're usually hosted by some goofy person. I always loved watching Elvira!

Glad you liked this, Carol. I'm working on some more things.

  5. In the 60s Id go next door to my cousin's house and watch the scarey picture show late night on Saturday. After the movie I had to go home by passing underneath a big oak tree that had a bunch of dark shadows and spots up in it that looked like good places for the Wolf Man to hide. As I'd leave my cousin's back step I'd run wide open to my back steps. I'd be running 50 mph as I ran under that shadowy oak tree so as to make sure the Wolf Man couldn't jump down and get me. By the time I got to my back steps I was running 90 mph and had to grab our screen door handle to slow down so I wouldn't overshoot the house and be eaten by the Wolf Man.

  6. Venus, you're working on more stuff? Hmm...intriguing.
MrPoirot, I believe your story! Those old horror movies were scary - The Wolfman, Frankenstein, Dracula, etc.

  7. Thanks Venus. Good work as usual. I can't wait to see what else you're working on.

I love those old Hammer films. They used to show them late on Saturday nights where I lived too.

It's amazing what Sharon saw in Roman, but to each his own I guess. After the TLB murders, they showed all of Sharon's movies at drive-ins where I lived. I guess a tribute to her or something. I saw Fearless Vampire Killers there, and I have to say, I didn't care for it. But I don't care for foreign films period. They're not edited correctly. Scenes jump around and they're not coherent.

  10. Oh, Venus...that implies several possibilities. I will say what you are working on would have something to do with Jay (I hope).

In the late 60s when I was a little kid in the SF Bay Area an older kid taught me how to pick the lock on the wasing machine in our apartments and we used to steal quarters. He also taught me to just take what we needed so the apartment manager wouldn't notice. We'd take the quarters and go to the dime store on MacArthur Blvd near Fruitvale in Oakland an buy monster models. I had Frankenstein, the Wolf Man, Dr Jekyl and Mr Hyde, Dracula and probably more.
On either Friday or Saturday nights there was a show on KTVU Channel 2 called Creature Features. The host was Bob Wilkins and he'd show classic monster flicks. We'd watch with the lights out and get the hell scared out of us.
    Man, those were the days......

I noticed that too at the drive in when I was a teenager. I noticed it at about the same time I noticed that joint being passed around would usually start off clockwise to everyone in the car but for some reason it would end up going counter clockwise.....

Just a guess but does it have something to do with that pic of him hiding a roll of quarters and a couple of olives in his speedo?

  20. Somehow I have to doubt that quote about joints being passed one way in the car and then the other way at the drive-in.

When I got up the next morning after smoking joints at the drive in, I didn't have the foggiest idea which damn way the joints went.
