Charles Manson - A Chronicle of Death

"The Grump from Pahrump" Writes:
I recently came across this pre-Helter Skelter book from 1971.
I had never heard of it before.

Charles Manson
A Chronicle of Death
By J.D. Russell
Copyright 1971, Apollo Books

It is not worth getting excited about or trying to find it.  I'm just one of those that buys all the books on the subject.

It refers to Manson as "Charley Miller Manson".  The only thing that caught my eye was the following info on Voytek Frykowski:

"Not only was he known to be a heavy user of drugs, but there was strong evidence that he trafficked in them, also.  He has sinister dark connections with the underground drug world.

In the investigation that followed his murder, police found in his possessions a pilot's map with route markings between Southern California and Mexico.  When they tracked the pilot down they discovered that he had been flying in large  quantities of narcotics from Mexico, and had made a sizable delivery to Frykowski earlier in the week.  As  lusty a drug user as he was, it is inconceivable that this quantity of drugs could have been consumed by him and his mistress and friends alone."

I have always agreed with the words of Maury Terry:
"The name of the game was narcotics, not Helter Skelter".

  1. Frykowski and drugs, has always been one of my top "motive picks" for Cielo.

    Motive pick #2:
    Frykowski (and/or Sebring) and drugs.
Polanski states that Sebring "may have had a drug delivery job" on his lie detector test.
Sebring was playing with the candy, too.

Polanski also states, in his lie detector test (paraphrasing):
"If I had gotten rid of Frykowski, Sharon might still be alive".

    Motive pick #3:
Manson, simply being a very bitter mofo.
John Lennon described Manson as being "Cracked" and "balmy". LOL

    Thanks Grump!

  2. Thanks Grump!

Is there any info on Dan Stanland, the pilot?

There is not a lot of info "out there" about him, except what's in the 2nd police report...

I swear I saw an episode on him (years ago) on Investigative Reports or something..

I believe he is dead now, but not even certain on that...

  3. Thanks Mr. Grump! I didn't know about the pilot. Maybe there's more to this drug motive than I'm aware of.

  4. Where does Manson fit into this drug motive?

  5. That pilot's map passage was one I marked in my copy of the book, too, as intriguing. One of the most amusing, to me, quotes in the book can be found on page 101.

"(Months later, when Susan Atkins showed up in court on day sans bra, it was noticeable that one breast hung considerably lower than the other. A rumor quickly went the rounds that Charley had deformed her in a fit of rage in some exotic way. Susan herself quickly dispelled the rumor herself. "Naw," she said, " I got that way from nursing the kid on just one side."

I don't know if that's even possible and don't know anyone nuts enough to prove or disprove the theory!

  6. Hi Deb.

I'm definitely nuts enough, to disprove it.
    LMAO!

Susan had one large breast in that Anton Lavey vampire photo.

    Seen here:
    http://gorightly.files.wordpress.com/2009/09/susan-atkins-dancing-in-anton-lavays-witches-sabbath-b.jpg

Her right breast, is clearly much larger.

Her time with Anton, would have been long before her ranch days (and nursing any Manson kids) wouldn't it?

I think Susan was just naturally made that way.

Ah... the little quirks of a woman's naked body.
One of life's little pleasures. LOLOL

  7. Hey! Y'all are back in business! Good deal. Patty is pro drug motive too in case U did not know. Hi Grumpy xxxxx

  8. LMAO! I meant the nursing on one side would make one's breast hang lower theory! I would pay to see you physically prove or disprove that one!

  10. Nice find...I've never seen this Book before and I thought I'd seen them all!

  11. I'd love to "physically prove it" on Susan Atkins... but unfortunately, it's much too late for that.

    ......... or, is it?
    Moowahahaha!

Naah... I'm not THAT bat-shit crazy.
    LMAO!

Are there any pregnant volunteers out there, for this in-depth clinical experiment? LOL

Send emails of interest (and accompanying photo of both breasts) to lynyrdskynyrdband@gmail.com c/o breast research project.

  12. The fine print:

This is a controlled study. All participants must have perfectly symmetrical breasts, prior to participation. Failure to observe this requirement, will result in immediate dismissal from the program.

    LOL

When I was in my 20s I worked at tourist bar in Old Sacramento called Fanny Ann's. That's where I did my residency as a freelance gynecologist. I noticed back then that some women had one breast a little larger than the other. I also noticed it on Christina Ricci in American Beauty and also noticed it in National Geographic Magazine.......

  16. Yes, Maury Terry believed drugs was one of the motives. But he also believe Satanism was a major factor.

  17. "The Manson Murders" Tonight

    Premiere Date:
    July 12, 2013
    10:00-11:00PM ET
    Channel - History 2 OR H2

In 1969, Hollywood was at the center of a brutal and sadistic killing spree. Charles Manson and his cult of followers began a prolific reign of terror on Tinsel Town, when they viciously killed more than half a dozen innocent people. Today, the sites of these horrific murders are host to claims of the paranormal. The restless spirit of Jay Sebring and Sharon Tate, are believed to haunt a house on Cielo Drive. Not far from the house is another famous Hollywood home, where Sharon Tate is believed to have witnessed a premonition of her own death. And at the Manson Family hideout, an apparition of a headless Donald "Shorty" Shea is seen standing on a rocky ledge. Decades after the senseless killings, these locations are still plagued by these paranormal events

I'm told that Michael from Backporch Tapes, may be on this program.

    "The Manson Murders" Tonight
    -----------------------------------
It never ceases to amaze me when "experts" on this case can go on national TV and throw out so many factual errors to the audience. Susan Atkins was at La Bianca? (In my best Johnny Carson Voice), "I did not know that". Hinman's ear was cut off? I thought it was sliced but not sliced off. Leslie Van Houten a homecoming queen? She was a homecoming princess. The author of Five To Die got a few things wrong and he wrote a book about this case. There were a bunch more but I'm going to have to watch my DVR recording before I can cite any more. That guy named Michael Channel looked familiar. I don't where from but I've seen his face somewhere.....

  20. The author of Five To Die said Sebring was killed after Frykowski and Folger.

Seemed to me that David Oman was trying to give the impression that he was unaware of the history of 10050 Cielo when he built that monstrosity on the former site. Anybody buying that?

That's not as bad as the docudrama that was done a couple of years ago (the one with Linda Kasabian narrating). It opens up with a subtitle:
SPAHN RANCH, BENEDICT CANYON, AUGUST 1969

  21. Doc,
    Michael Channel is Michaels Backporch.

  22. I guess I don't get the channel that show was on. I couldn't find it.

But, judging by what Doc pointed out, it looks like I didn't miss much...

  23. Another factual error I just remembered. The Five To Die author said that the family got permission to stay at Barker from the relative of a family member. As far as I know Arlene Barker had no relatives in the family.

  24. The show was interesting, but I don't know if I buy all that paranormal stuff.

  25. Zimmerman has been judged innocent. I'm proud to say I didn't follow the trial at all because Zimmy isn't a white guy and I'd never heard of a white-Hispanic. I am embarrassed that this country ran a show trial with a Roland Friesler-type judge.

  26. I was unable to watch the "The Manson Murders" mentioned in an earlier comment because I don't get History Ch 2. I'm pretty sure it's online though, I watched it HERE.

That link may not work for everyone depending on your browser and settings.

That show mentioned the "Terry Melcher" motive for the murders at Cielo which I personally lean towards, without posting an "encyclopedia" type comment. It also mentioned various "ghosts" and "spirits" supposedly around various locations.
