A letter to Ronnie Howard from Sadie Mae Glutz (1969)

Hello
I can see your side of this clearly. Nor am i mad at you. I am hurt in a way i only understand. I blame nobody but myself for ever saying anything to anybody about it. My attorney is going to go on insanity. Yes, I wanted the world to know “M”. It sure looks like they do now. There was a so called motive behind all this. It was to install fear into the pigs and to bring on judgment day which is here now for all.

In the first place there are no strangers to me or “M”. In the word kill the only thing that dies is the ego. All ego must die anyway, it is written. Yes it could have been your house it could have been my fathers (sic) house also. In killing someone physically you are only releasing the soul. Life has no boundaries and death is only an illusion.

If you can believe in the second coming of Christ “M” is he who has come to save. Insanity is reality and not caring. When you truly love you do not care about anyone or anything you just love. “M” does not care, I know this to be the truth. Maybe this will help you to understand. I am not going to fight this. I will let my attorney do that. I am going to save my soul, the body my soul is housed in can be destroyed for all I care. To live forever is all I want, and I really don’t care about that.

I did not admit to being in the 2nd house, because I was not in the second house. I went before the grand jury because my attorney said your testimony was enough to convict me and all the others. He also said it was my only chance to save myself. Then I was out to save myself. I have gone through some changes since then. I am ceasing to be inside rather than seeming to be. I have been going through changes about feeling guilty about testifying and all that has happened. For me to say I am sorry is not enough for me. I have been dying a little more every day. Giving up my useless thoughts. I know now it has all been perfect.

Yes we are beyond petty caring. Love is also beyond limits. These people died not out of hate or anything ugly. I am not going to defend our beliefs. I am just telling you the way it is.

I am also content here. My attorney gives me money. He just deposited $20 to my account. As I write to you I feel more at ease inside.

When I first heard you were the informer I wanted to slit your throat. I snapped that I was the real informer and it was my throat I wanted to cut. Well that’s over with now as I let the past die away from my mind. You know it will turn out ok in the end anyway. “M” or no “M”, Sadie or no Sadie. Love will still run forever. I am giving up me to become that love a little more every day. Changes, Changes, Only Love if forever Changing.

Cease to exist just come and say you love me. As I say I love you or should say I love Me (my love) in you.
Write me
I hope now you understand a little more. If not ask.

Sadie

  1. There was a so called motive behind all this. It was to install fear into the pigs and to bring on judgment day which is here now for all.

It's pretty evident that the girls were convinced of this impending race war that Charlie had preached about. He had them believing that killing people was somehow loving them and doing them some kind of favor.

The difference in mindset that Susan had back then and then in later years is amazing.

  2. Amazing. "To live forever is all I want". Didn't Marlin M. say of Manson that he had never met anyone who wanted to live more than Manson did.

This letter (thanks Katie) is a great counterpoint to anyone who thinks TLB was an anomoly or quirk. People a hundred years from now will still be amazed at how this half-ass con was able to convince not just a few but a dozen or more idiots of his "cease to exist" bullshit. And to convince them even further that killing, or mutilating others, was in fact doing them a favor as it released their souls from their "pig bodies".
TLB was a unique and phenomonaly disturbing mindfuck. All those looking for the ever elusive alternative motive need to read this letter over and over. Think of where Sadie was at mentally when she wrote this. She was screwed, hated by the Family and the public. There is no bullshit here on her part. This letter is raw, it is core.

  3. To me, this is a point that its quite possible Sadie stabbed Sharon and is capable of killing, contrary to her new "I didn't kill anyone" story that she came out with when she published her first book. Even when she was involved in crimes BEFORE meeting the family, she was arrested with a gun and told the arresting officer she wanted to shoot him.

  4. This letter chilled me. How can she say the killings weren't committed because of anything ugly, and then in other settings brag about how she taunted Sharon? It doesn't matter whether she actually taunted Sharon or was just embellishing and trying, as was her wont, to seem hard. You don't taunt a victim in her death moments or claim to have done if you're operating under the delusion that you in fact loved said victim. Why didn't she claim she told Sharon as she was dying that she "loved" her? Because she didn't, because she was full of her own hatred and resentment combined with Manson's BS and she enjoyed what she was doing. A big part of me has always been able to subscribe to Bugliosi's seemingly contradictory theory that Manson was responsible and yet the killers themselves were responsible because I believe - especially listening to the fantastic audio files cielodrive.com has been making available lately, many of which were recorded before Bugliosi even entered the scene - that while Manson implanted these people's minds with his horse manure, he was also adept at sussing people out psychologically and he knew which members of the Family were predisposed to violence and capable of slaughter. Sadie might have told herself at certain moments that she did this out of love, but deep inside herself I believe she always knew that wasn't the case.

  5. Leigh I agree.

She says she testified to the grand jury to save herself, then she later felt guilty for testifying.

If she wanted to save herself, then she must have known that what she did was wrong. Why try to save yourself if you believe that what you did was right?

I think Manson had Sadie's brain screwed up but I also think her brain was pretty screwed up before she met Manson. He just added more cuckoo stuff to it.

I've always believed that Sadie truly believed Chucky's bullshit but I don't believe Manson believes the Helter Skelter bullshit. I think he used Helter Skelter as a way to make his minions paranoid as a way of controlling them.

My professional opinion is that at the writing of this letter Sadie was bat shit nuts.

  7. "I think Manson had Sadie's brain screwed up but I also think her brain was pretty screwed up before she met Manson. He just added more cuckoo stuff to it." Right on, Katie.

Further proof of Sadie's predisposition to violence was testified to in the penalty phase of the TLB trials. Cats' site has the transcript up. The incident testified to happened in Oregon in 1966. Sadie was arrested, I believe, with two males and the arresting officer testified that Sadie had stated that if she had had a gun she would have killed him, or words to that effect. Most of you are probably already aware of all of this, but it seems topical so I highlight it again.

An unruly, messed up kid saying something out of anger? Possibly. But I think she had it in her then, somewhere, maybe deep down, maybe not that deep. I think Manson gave her an opportunity and a fabricated moral and philosophical justification to act upon her own worst desires.

  8. But don't you think that is just the point, Doc. They were all bat shit nuts. No question Pat was, and Lulu with her wings, and even the despicable Tex with his bella donna.
And listening to the Crockett tape over on Cielo Dr and his talking about what a whack job he thought Manson was.
That's the whole point to TLB - it was madness. Total madness. And yet we still sit here a half a century later trying to find an alternative reasonable motive.

We know Manson and the killers were bonkers. The intriguing part of the case for me is speculating just how many of the other Family members would have murdered?
Cappy? No doubt, she has said so. Pittman? No question. Ouisch? She said she wanted to. Blue and Red? probably. Gypsy? not as certain but I'd still say yes. The others?

  9. I always wonder, had Sandy and Mary not been in jail, would one of them have been picked.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Leary they were all bat shit nuts. I agree with Doc, Manson didn't believe all that Helter Skelter stuff, he just used it as a mantra to his "kids" to keep them in line and maintain control of them.

It looks like the only one who is still nuts is Charlie.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Lauren that's a good question.

Charlie picked Mary & Susan for Hinman, and picked Susan again for TLB. I think that if Mary hadn't been in jail, she might very well have gone instead of Pat or Linda.

  13. I used to think the smaller Manson girls like Ruth Ann or Nancy Pitman lacked the size to consider accosting another person. But after following the Jodi Arias trial Ive changed my mind. She shot, stabbed and sliced up her BF while dragging his nearly 200lb body up and down the hallway before stashing him in a small shower like she was stuffing a bunch of stolen hotel towels in her suitcase.

  14. Hi Leary, I agree that they were all nuts. I just don't believe that Chucky really believed in Helter Skelter. My step father knew him pretty well considering it was in a clinical setting and my step father has professionally assessed Manson and said he's not crazy. He's manipulative and street smart. Necessary skills for a successful convict. Psychopathic and sociopathic and maybe even narcissistic. He, like any other good con could size you or me up about as quick as we could drink a glass of water.

    Poirot replies:

What you are saying is true of your step father's diagnosis at the time he knew Manson. However, in summer 69 Manson had a nervous breakdown that he has himself admitted. Charlie was crazy at the time he ordered the murders. Charlie did believe Helter Skelter evidenced by the fact that he heard the Beatles talking to him through the songs on the White Album. Anotherwords; he heard voices. Hearing voices is a main symptom of schizophrenia.

  18. Hi Bob,

I'm personally convinced, that Manson didn't actually believe in "Helter Skelter".

I believe, Manson simply used the HS story as a tool, to manipulate the kids.
He had many "tools of manipulation" (for lack of better terminology) actually... and HS, was just one of them.

Bugliosi stated himself, during one of his television appearances (I believe it was the Bertice Berry show)... that he was not personally convinced, that Manson "actually believed the HS story himself".
Bugliosi went on to suggest, that Manson used HS as a tool, to "work them into a lather" in preparation for things to come.

  19. Mr. P., I've been watching the Jodi Arias trial on In Session, and it's quite an opera.

They're comparing it to baby-killing Casey Anthony's trial in Orlando because of the fact that she's such a LIAR (just like Casey, only not as good. Casey was a GOOD liar, never faltering, always had an answer at the drop of the hat, even though it was all a bunch of fucking lies) and she is soft spoken and has dark hair.

She not only stabbed her ex boyfriend 27 times, she shot him in the head and tried to decapitate him. She came up with all kinds of stories, but finally decided it was "self defense".

I hope a lazy fucked up jury doesn't acquit her like they acquitted Casey because they were too bored, lazy and stupid to figure it out.

  20. Anyway, back to Susan Atkins.

As I've said before, Susan was the only family member who actually had an excuse to join up with this "family".

She was filled with rage, and understandably so.

Her mother died when she was young, and her father basically abandoned her. It's no big shock that she readily joined this "family" because she had none.

She looked on Charlie as the father that she never had, as he wanted (think about your Daddy). She would have done anything he asked. Anything.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I really do feel sorry for Susan Atkins. I can't say that for ANY other family member.

Susan was a lost soul when Charlie swooped her up like a janitor looking for dust bunnies.

None of the others can make that claim to fame. The others were just lazy, bored drifters, looking for thrills. Many from families with money, one just from Hicksville, Texas.

  22. On the topic of Sadie blabbing to people- heres something else that interests me and that I personally take with a grain of salt. Back when James wasn't in too dire need of money and the Myth of Helter Skelter was on her site, she claimed she blabbed and made up what she told Ronnie and Virginia because they were coming on to her and Manson had talked of doing that before. Yet she told OTHER people in the cell about the murders, there were interviews with them somewhere. And to top it off, this is a girl who bragged about doing everything there was to do sexually and who lived in a commune where same-sex was practiced.

    They were certainly nuts.
The group (and the way it operated), also meets most (if not all) definitions of a cult.
We also consider these kids to be victims themselves to some extent... which to varying degrees is true... especially in the case of the very young folks, like Dianne Lake and Ruth Moorehouse.

We comoonly refer to this situation as a bunch of nutjobs... a cult... kids that were victimized, etc...

And, it's all true, in varying degrees.

These labels are all used frequently, and for worthy reason.

But, one label which is often over-looked on these blogs, is simply "criminals".

I think because of their fairly tender age, and the fact that most of these characters were of the "feminine persuasion"... we often dismiss what may be the most accurate description, of all.
These numbnuts were criminals, living a criminal lifestyle.

My point doesn't have a whole lot of significance... but, it's something that crosses my mind, from time to time... so, I thought I'd share.

    And where are those?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Were they criminals or more succinctly; revolutionaries?

If Charlie didn't believe HS he certainly spent a lot of time hunting the bottomless pit.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Lauren are you not up to date on what happened with the "Manson commune"? They all had sex with each other. Man on man, girl on girl, man on child, girl on child.

Charlie wanted them to "lose themselves" with every perversion imaginable. He's a creepy dude.

Don't blame that on Susan. That's a Charlie rule.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I've lost myself with every sexual perversion imaginable before...

I didn't realize it was a bad thing.

  28. Katie- I saw on one of the backporch tapes somewhere.I will try to find. And no, I'm not blaming anything on Susan. Im saying I don't see why this is so horrifying to a women who had sex with virtually anything that walked- two women hitting on her. And not to mention in Susan's claim, there was no specific evidence that they were hitting on her.

  29. I noticed a few comments about Jodi Arias. I just happened to catch a bit of that trial on TV today, this girl would do the Manson family proud if the allegations are correct, and they certainly appear to be.

I've done a bit of checking online, apparently, Jodi Arias and Travis Alexanders MySpace pages are still up. I have them both open in other tabs right now. All the comments are like from 4 or 5 years ago. Arias has an album of pix on her page entitled "In Loving Memory of Travis Alexander". That can be seen HERE.

Alexander was stabbed 27 times, his throat was slit from ear to ear, and he was shot in the forehead. There are graphic pix online, I won't post a link.

Someone named "Travis" left a comment on Arias page 4 years ago that said "I wonder how much you raise the hotness level of Yreka all by yourself, factoring in its per capita hot stats before you came, I am sure it has raised exponentially."

That case is pretty weird also.

  31. What Im trying to convey is Susan was saying she spoke of the Tate Murders in jail to protect herself, which was never looked upon. From the account of VB, Susan was talkative, crazy and just naturally had a big mouth.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Lauren, I understand.

I think I'm just mad at Casey Anthony for getting off. Because I know for a fact that she's GUILTY AS CHARGED. She killed her little daughter because she was "in the way" of her "boyfriending".

Her tiny little skull could fit in your palm. It sickens me that a drive-in drop-out could get away with this heinous crime.

And that skank got off because a wilting, backbone-less, white-faced, bored, lifeless, shit-brained jury acquitted her.

I remember the day it happened. A sad day for the Americas and the World.

  45. I've read that Atkins confessed her crimes to several other inmates at Sybil Brand. As many as 4 or more knew about what she said. Virgina Graham describes what Atkins told her in a YouTube vid around the 6:50 mark, that vid can be seen Here.

Graham testified at the trial, a news story about her testimony can be found Here.

I think there is a vid on YouTube of another woman that claims to have been in jail with Atkins and heard her story, if I run across it again I'll post a link, don't feel like looking for it now.

Finally, I think there's a woman in one of the Hendrickson films that claims to have been a cellmate of Atkins and knew of her story.

News like that gets around a jail fast, especially when someone is bragging about it.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Nancy Jordan was a cellmate of Susan Atkins, if you watch the Hendrickson film She claims to have been to the Ranch previous to her being in Jail with Atkins.
From what She says in the Film Susan did confess the Murders to Her.
She might just be making that up for a few minutes of Fame but My guess is she thought Atkins might have been telling tall tales.
The Girl with long black Hair and Glasses in the clip Lauren linked to isn't identified by name in the Film but she seems to have been in jail with susan and not a cellmate.
But She heard Sadies bragging as well.

  48. katie in hendrickson's documentary "manson" five or six female inmates were interviewed who said atkins told them but they weren't going to snitch on her. as far as i know atkins liked women sexually, read john gilmore's "garbage people" where he interviewed a woman who was having an affair with her before she met manson. i don't believe she told graham and howard she murdered people because she wanted to keep them from coming on to her but bevause she liked to brag and tell embelished (at best)stories to people.

    ReplyDelete
  49. also katie i think jodie arias' defense is going to be that she never killed alexander but that she was coerced into confessing by the police. also the jury, which is allowed to ask questions in arizona, seem to be asking questions looking for a different murderer such as "where were alexanders roommates at the time of the murders" and were any knives missing from the kitchen?"

  50. Sadie looks scary in that photo. Really freaky, fucked up scary. Anyone know what that hand gesture she's making is ment to mean?

    ReplyDelete
  51. Thanks Sunset, Lauren & Matt. I'd never heard that Susan confessed to others, but then I've never watched the Hendrickson video.

It's not surprising that she would blab to others. And I don't think she did that out of fear either, she was just trying to get attention.

But as Matt mentioned, these women might be just trying to get their 15 minutes of fame, who knows.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Thanks Beauders. I can't believe the jury is asking those questions at Arias' trial. She's already admitted she killed Travis.

She was stupid enough to take pictures of him in the shower right before she killed him, during her killing him and after she killed him. Then she left the camera at the crime scene. She ran out of excuses when questioned by the police because they had her red handed.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Adam, it looks like she's gesturing "I've got my eye on you". LOL.

  54. Jodi wanted to see the crime scene fotos in her interrigation after her arrest out of "morbid curiosity". Later on in the interrigation she wanted to see them again. Yet in court this week she cried and sheilded her eyes from the fotos.

Jodi was into Wiccan before converting to Morman. Thus she was a witch like Sadie. Jodi also wanted to be her own attorney but she submitted forged evidence. Now she is subnitting forged letters to the National Enquire who turned her down. Since when has forged evidence bothered the NE? LOL!
Travis made the mistake of pitting two girls against one another. He had to hide Jodi from his friends because they all hated her. His friends struck me as possesive of him while claiming Jodi was possesive of him at the same time. The poor guy just couldn't win.

  56. Mr. P., the Arias trial has been delayed until January 29 so the defense can put their case together. That's as insane as their client.

They're using the "battered woman syndrome" as a defense, but I haven't seen any testimony that she was abused.

I'm sure the defense will come up with some dog and pony show. They always seem to blame the victim.

Here's an interesting 48Hours show on Arias.

I just find it odd the way Travis' friends would tell him he couldn't come around them if he dated Jodi. Perhaps Travis should have ignored his friends.

The defense has filed for a mistrial which caused the recess. Maybe this will give Jodi time to peddle her forged letters to another tabloid. Maybe Lynyrd will publish her letters? Lynyrd if you don't publish her forged letters she'll fry. She's hot looking Lynyrd. Can't you help the gal out?

  69. Thanks Doc! San Juan, Puerto Rico. But I think for summer Im going back to Big Sur! Anyone know any good places to check out around there?!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Hi Lauren, I just spent 7 years in the Monterey area. Big Sur is one of my favorite places in the world. There's three places in Big Sur that I used to frequent.
    1. Maiden Your Place. A nice bar and grill with micro brews from all over the world. They also have a dance club with live music in the basement.
    2. Nepenthe. An upscale restaurant and bar overlooking the ocean.
    3. Jade Cove. It's pretty far south in Big Sur but it's a beautiful stretch of beach and people find jade there all the time.
All three of places are on HWY 1. There's many other cool shops, hotels, and restaurants along HWY 1.
If you go there in October you can check out the Jade Festival. I met David Crosby there once.
There's also a three day Blue Grass Festival there every year.
There's a lot of cool places along HWY 1. There's even a restaurant that has tables and seats in the middle of a creek out back. I can't remember the name of it but if you describe it to the locals they'll know the place.

I love Nepenthe. It was featured in the Taylor/Burton movie The Sandpiper. (Incidentally, their cookbook My Nepenthe is also very good.) Definitely not to be missed for anyone visiting.

It's been a couple of years since I last went to Big Sur on account of moving from California to the UK, but I miss it more than any other place. I'm looking forward to this movie - http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplaylist/watch-unexpectedly-beautiful-trailer-for-michael-polishs-sundance-entry-big-sur-20130104 - just so I can bask in the views.

No Leigh, I haven't. I met a couple from the UK at Maiden Your Place back in 2007 or 2008. She worked for Disney. We had a lot of fun drinking 21% alcohol micro brew and shootin' the breeze with them. Man, I gotta get down to Big Sur soon. I'm feeling the Big Sur Jones.

  76. A bit more info about Jodi Arias.

If the info I'm reading about Travis Alexander is correct, he was murdered on June 4, 2008.

The Huffington Post says that on June 17, 2008 "Arias went to the Mesa Police Headquarters and was voluntarily fingerprinted. She also gave investigators a sample of her saliva for DNA testing. While waiting for the lab test results to come back, investigators were notified that several shocking images, some of which had been deleted, were recovered from the memory card of the camera found in Alexander's washing machine. The deleted pictures were of Alexander, naked in the shower, just before his death. He appeared to be posing in some of the photographs. However, other photos, which were dark and grainy, "were of a subject on the floor of the bathroom bleeding profusely," police said.

Six other photos, time-stamped that same day, allegedly showed Arias on Alexander's bed. According to police, "all were nude pictures," and in some she was in "provocative sexual poses."--Huffington Post

Apparently on the same day, June 17, 2008 a YouTube user by the name of "jodiannarias" uploaded a vid entitled "Travis Alexander - Eddie Snell's Paustenbalm". That vid can be seen HERE.

Finally, Arias was also apparently a blogger. Her blog can be found HERE.
