William Cywin Arrest
On November 18, 1982, Leslie Van Houten married William D. Cywin. Cywin, known as Bill to his friends and family, was a parolee. He was 30 years old, and one day started writing to Van Houten. He had done time before he met her, several times in fact, for grand theft auto and drug charges. He was a cocaine user and smoked pot regularly. All this was no secret to Van Houten.
Here is a report done by CDC officials at CIW about his arrest:

CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS

By: Acting Lieutenant Investigator Gwendolyn Glenn
For: CMPR

On March 25th, 1982, Mr. Bill Cywin, husband to our Inmate Van Houten, Leslie, was arrested, detained at the San Bernardino Sheriff's Office in Ontario, and waiting for transport to the San Bernardino County Jail.
Mr. Cywin was found in possession of a stolen automobile, Corvette, with a vehicle registration number that was registered to a Herb Garret.
A search of Cywin's residence produced the following contraband: one small quantity of cocaine and marijuana, that was presumed to be for personal use.
Two, a California Department of Corrections CDC shirt, complete with a CDC batch and three, a dress, jumper style, the color of green, that is used by CDC uniforms. The jumper resembled the type used by pregnant female officers.
Mr. Cywin was charged with Penal Code Section 496, receiving or concealing stolen property, felony.
Mr. Cywin's parole agent had been informed, and placed a parole hold on Mr. Cywin.
It is to be noted that Mr. Cywin had personally delivered a letter to the institution, the letter addressed from an attorney, requesting arrangements for visiting approval for a doctor of psychiatry to interview Van Houten at CIW on March 28th, 1982. (Webmaster Note; that's three days after the arrest)
This interview was scheduled to take place prior to Van Houten's Board of Prison Terms lifer hearing. This institution acknowledged that a letter had been received.
Mr. Cywin placed a call to CIW, requesting information on custody and classification procedure concerning Van Houten.

I like her "horse laugh" at 44 seconds. Fun, fun and more fun. LOL.
ReplyDeleteBailiff had to feed her a carrot to calm her down. Plus a few sugar cubes.
ReplyDeleteROFL...a carrot to calm her down...LOL.
ReplyDeleteLeslie Van Houten likes to play the victim. She admitted that she wanted to go along the 2nd night, but later backtracks and says she wasn't sure what was going to happen.
ReplyDeleteThat's a lie. She saw what happened at Cielo Drive on the news that day. She was fully aware of their mission the 2nd night.
She has lied and downplayed her part in murder for almost 43 years.
She thought by marrying this drugged-out idiot that she could get out of prison.
After this guy she has gone from man to man to help her get out, with no success.
This is why she should just stay put for the rest of her life.
Hi Stormy & Marliese!
ReplyDeleteStormy, she is horse-like, but one other thing I've noticed about this "laugh gasp" is that she reminds me of a fish out of water. A gulp for air every 5 seconds.
I wonder if she had a hook in her mouth. HA HA.
Didn't LVH and some other girl run a scam on truckers in Death Valley? They'd hitchhike and come on to him then steal what he was loading? The woman has a long history of conning people.
ReplyDeleteStormy I don't know about that, but I do know that LVH had a way with men, and she used that to her advantage every time.
ReplyDeleteNot only before, during and after the murders, but after her imprisonment.
There was a young guy on the jury that she made "snake eyes" at and he was flattered. He was the only hold out at the guilty verdict. The others finally talked him into sanity.
She's like The Song of the Siren.
She must have looked real pretty sitting there at the defendant's table with a bloody "X" on her head.
ReplyDeleteReminds me of a Seinfeld episode, The Limo.
George: "She said she'd do anything for me."
Jerry: "George...she's a Nazi. a NAZI!!"
George: "Yeah...but she's a cute Nazi."
HA HA HA.
Why didn't Leslie marry a millionaire Texas oil man with a big Cadilac like Sadie did?

Hi Katie! That picture of her that we see on this thread is so atrocious...the terrible looking glasses, the old lady hair...she has not aged well.
A convicted felon...no future, no job, been in prison...several times, a known drug user. Just what was she thinking?
After 13 years in prison, she must have been very familiar with what she needed to do in order to appear fit for parole, why would she marry a flake? It doesn't make sense.
So reports that she was completely rehabilitated were untrue...she was still making poor decisions.

ReplyDeleteI'm going to go out on a limb and say that when Sadie married that Lai$ure character that she committed an error in judgment. I mean his previous 35 marriages should have been a red flag.
ReplyDelete>>>Mr. P said: Why didn't Leslie marry a millionaire Texas oil man with a big Cadilac like Sadie did?>>>
ReplyDeleteYeah, that joke was on Sadie. LOL.
I would imagine that it would be hard to attract well-groomed, educated, successful suitors if your baggage includes serving a life sentence for some of the most heinous crimes in American history. Pretty slim pickings I'm sure.
It would take a tremendous loser to want to get involved with these people on any level.
Looking at her prison accomplishments, her education, the support she has from others for parole, I want to like her and I want to hope she could one day have a life apart from paying endlessly for these terrible crimes...but then I think of Rosemary...a hood over her head, helplessly tied with a cord, frantic, hysterical, and Leslie Van Houten holding her down, the stabbing over and over again, the straight forward entering of the house, getting knives out of the kitchen, walking around a man gutted on the living room floor while she cleaned up fingerprints...she knew what she was doing. She wasn't out of her mind on drugs. She had forethought and deliberate actions...knew about the murders the first night, can i do this, yes i can, and then carefully cleaning up the crime scene afterward, coming on to some guy for a ride back to the ranch later, her minimizing and ongoing inability to show sincere remorse...
ReplyDeleteHer testimony back in the day "Patricia had a knife and I had a knife and we just started stabbing and cutting up the lady"...that's probably closest to the truth than any of what we've heard decades later.
>>>Marliese said: So reports that she was completely rehabilitated were untrue...she was still making poor decisions.>>>
ReplyDeleteYes she was Marliese and the proof is in the pudding.
I guess she thought that if she showed up at the parole hearing looking like a harmless school marm that the parole board members would be fooled into thinking she was now rehabilitated and ready for release.
Her callous comments over the years regarding Rosemary's death will come back to haunt her for the rest of her life.
Katie said >>>>>>it would take a tremendous loser to want to get involved with these people on any level.<<<<<<<<
ReplyDeleteNo truer words!
When Leslie was asked in the courtroom how she felt about Mrs. LaBianca's death, she said "What can I feel? It has happened. She is gone."
ReplyDeleteWhen asked if she wanted to cry for what had happened, she answered: "Cry? For her death? If I cry for death, it is for death itself. She is not the only person who has died."
I don't think Leslie has made much progress from this stage in her life. She's still a high school princess who is above punishment.
Over and over again we read that Leslie Van Houten is considered the one with the most chance to be paroled, though she hasn't been yet, we still hear it...so when will this likely happen? When she's 80? When she inevitably gets sick one day? That didn't work out for Susan.
ReplyDeleteI just wonder...if she is eventually paroled, would her supporters take care of her, or does their help end at that point? Mission accomplished. Go have a nice life...as an old lady, convicted murderer...
Susan had James Whitehouse. Bobby has his wife and children. Who would stand alongside Leslie for the remainder of her life...if she was paroled?
Good point Katie and Marliese - I think she will have people standing by her when she is released. However, they will stand by her only long enough to get their 15 minutes of fame...once the hoopla is over concerning their release, they will disappear.
ReplyDeleteYeah, the last horse laugh would be on back-stabbing Leslie.
ReplyDelete"Leslie we're so glad you got out....well....good luck with all that."
"But wait a minute, who's gonna take care of me? Who's gonna hire me?"
"Hire you? What do you know how to do except dumpster dive, screw and kill people. Get lost."
"WWWWHHHHAAAAAAAAAA!"
