Mary suggested that we choose a book, and discuss it on-blog. I think it's a great idea. I had a couple suggestions for that idea. I think if we chose a book, we could discuss it one chapter, each week, or bi-weekly... whatever pace everyone thinks is appropriate. I could post a thread each week (for instance), of the book title, and the chapter, and folks could leaves comments. It would have to be light-hearted I think to work. I don't want it to come across as an "assingment", book report or mandatory. I also think we should start with "The Family", or "Helter Skelter"... something kinda universal like that. Lastly... I think we should wait till the membership grows, as only a portion will likely participate.
Myself... I have zero free time lately. I bought "Squeaky" by Jess Brevin on Amazon months ago... and it's been collecting dust on my bookshelf. BUT... I don't want to deny others the opportunity to participate in Mary's idea, just because I personally, may not be able to participate (due to time constraints). I'll be happy to post the threads, if you guys wanna do this.
What does everyone think? Anyone interested in participating? Suggestions?
Like I said... it might make sense to wait a few weeks until the membership grows to introduce this idea... but, it can't hurt to get some feedback now.

I love that idea!! Mary good going!!!
I would love to participate!!
That's a good exercise to discuss every aspect!
But we have to have all the books. LOL
I'm in...I've read everything I could get my hands on...(not that I remember what was in them ...LOL)
Kimchi yeah!!! That's a second!! Do I heard a third???
Hooowahhh.
That'll be more fun than swimming in the cement pond. HA HA.
Seriously, I think if we all put our heads together, we might make sense of this nonsense.
Mary, great idea!! Good thoughts come from great minds. LOL.
Well can we start with The Family? If not, I'll have to go out and buy Helter Skelter again. I loaned it to someone who didn't return it, so I'll have to buy a new one.
But that's okay. I can do that. Just let me know!
I'll tell ya what... if this is something everyone is excited about, I'll join.
But... I gotta say, with my schedule... I can only do a chapter a week. LOLOL
I've already got "The Family". LOL
I actually have two. The newest version in paperback... and the original hard-back I grabbed at a yard-sale for like a quarter, just for posterity. LOLOL
Let's see what Bob, and MPaul have to say.
MPaul e-mailed me the other day, and said he had a death in the family... but, will be here to chat with us, when he's feeling up to it.
I wish MPaul, my sincere sympathies on his loss.
I lost a dear uncle just last month, and it's never easy.
Sure, after that, I got lots more in mind....I even went out and bought the one Pristash recommended...but it's fiction..good read though.
I've got "Squeaky" by Jess Brevin, brand new from Amazon... been collecting dust on my shelf for months.
We could dust that off next.
SQUEAKY IS MY FAV! LOLOL
KIMCHI... GREAT TO SEE YOU TONIGHT!!!
Paul McCartney... Good Call!!!
You gotta love the IM sessions, when everyone's on at the same time. LOLL
I'm going to make a sandwich...
I'll be back. : )
Paul is the man -
Right now I'm struggling with Taming The Beast - have been for a while...it can't keep my interest..but I'm game for any of them..
Kimchi, just curious what have you read? Mary, what have you read?
I've only read a few books. You've probably read a lot more than I have.
There are lots of books out of print that I haven't purchased because they're too expensive.
But I know there are some new books out that I haven't bought.
Been too busy. That's why I like talking to people on this blog. To learn. Let's find the truth together.
The one I read that Pristash recommended was "The Dead Circus" - but it's fiction...it was a good theory though.
Okay I'm a few blogs behind.
Paul McCartney IS the man!!
I've loved him since 1963 when I first saw him. He was the CUTE Beatle!! HA HA.

MPaul, my deepest sympathies. I hope you're okay.
Guys, whatever book you want to start with, let me know. I'll make sure I have it in hand.
Godspeed to you all.
Everything I could find I bought...one after the other...Desert Shadows, both Nelson books, Ghosts in those hills (Emmet Harder), Manson Today, Manson, myths and music, the Railroading of CM, Squeeky, Long Prison Journey, Child of Satan, Tex's book, Q is for Quarrey, (1/2 fiction, but touched on Bobby) The Manson Files, HS, Family, Manson Love Letters to a secret disciple, but the one that touched home was called Devils Dropout - she was from my home town...and many more books - have to look at them....
Jeepers Kimchi!!
That's incredible!!!
You'll have to be my fact-checker among other things!
Taming the Beast... That's the Ed George book isn't it?
Do you find him credible?
Sorry MPaul - I had 3 family deaths in 2010...I know your sorrow...you too Lynyrd...
Yes - it's the Ed George book -but I was told it was really written by Pin Cushion..LOL..it can't hold my interest...
Credible, no... like I said, it was really written by an inmate..
LOLOL "Pin Cushion". haha
Let's start with "the Family" by Ed Sanders... and go from there.
I've been wanting to read that again anyway. LOL
Two birds with one stone?? LOLOL
I was kinda hoping Mary would show-up tonight, since this is her idea... but, I haven't seen her.
Oh well...
The part about the Family that was hard to swallow (for me) was all the voodoo and animal sacrafices...don't know where he got all that stuff from..one day I'll try and read between the lines..
But then again, I worked with a guy that rented the La Bianca house in the 70's and his wife was into that stuff and so were her friends..said they had rituals in Griffith Park, so maybe it did happen..
Yeah... I think he tried to "spice it up" just a bit. After all, at the end of the day, he was tryin to sell copies of his book.
Honestly Kimchi... I can only guess. LOL
If 6-8 of us read the book (hopefully more), we'll get to the bottom of it!!!
I think there is a festival in Topanga Canyon every year, it's coming up...I think I'll go and meet some of the old hippies there and find out more about the Spiral Staircase...so much not known..no pictures or anything..
Kimchi, I read all that too about the voodoo and animal sacrifices. I didn't really buy all that stuff. I know what you mean.
I'll re-read it too.
It was too surreal.
Anyway, have a good night.
Love your avatar, Paul, or as they called him, Paulie!!
See you soon!!
Oh, Sanders talks about Topanga quite a bit..but around these blogs all you hear is the same old rumors, not sure how much is BS..
Yeah, I gotta work tomorrow so I should say good night too..but I'll be back tomorrow.
You're fortunate being out there!
Massachusetts, might as well be light-years away. LOL
Besides... whenever I blog it's tough too.
It's 12:20 here already.
Us East-Coasters take a beating blogging, and re-searching this subject.
I shoulda picked a topic closer to home. LOL
Have a Good Night Kimchi and Katie!
Kimchi, I'm so glad you're here. I think I can learn a lot from you.
"He who thinks he knows everthing, knows nothing"
Night. I look forward to hearing from you tomorrow.
Nite, nite to all. Have a nice evening.
I have read Helter Skelter, parts of The Family, and I currently have Manson Now and Manson In His Own Words...so, if we want to start with The Family...I am game.
I would love to participate in this too. I even have a book in mind. Has anybody read the book "Crucified: The Railroading Of Charles Manson" by Michael White? That in my opinion is 1 of the best I have read so far. I have only read a few Manson related books but I'm open to reading more.
Hi x! I haven't heard of that book. Where can I find it? Mary I'm game with the Family!
This is going to be so much fun!! But we have to decide on which book to start with first. Lynyrd...we need an intervention!! HA HA.
HELLO X... GREAT TO HAVE YOU HERE!
Kimchi recommended the book you're suggesting a few threads back, under the photo of Kanarek.
I'm interested, because, according to her post, it's based heavily around court transcripts and documents... and to me, that's as close to the truth anyone is gonna get.
We'll put that book on our "must read" list.
I'd really like to start with "The Family" first... and then at least a quick skim of Helter Skelter (to know what we're arguing against, LOL)... and we'll do "The Rialroading" third.
Fair enough?
If both You and Kimchi say it's a great read... it's gotta be worth reading!
Thanks for your suggestion "X"!
WELCOME TO THE BLOG!!!

"This is going to be so much fun!! But we have to decide on which book to start with first. Lynyrd...we need an intervention!! HA HA".
Katie... We'll start with "The Family" first, since it's sort of a universal read among followers of this subject.
I'm hoping Bob and MPaul will be interested as well!
BTW... everyone feel free to post on the older threads. I still go back, and check for new comments.
I threw up a lot of threads in one day... which (in retrospect) probably didn't give folks enough time to read and comment.
Katie pointed this out... which makes sense.
I'll slow-down the thread "barrage" a little bit. LOLOL
Thanks everyone.
"X"... you've been officially added to the "members list" in the side bar.
I have to admit, I was kinda hoping for a longer name to add... but, if you want just an "X"... then "X" it is I guess! LOLOL
Peace...
Can I interest you in Malcolm X?, Racer X?, Manson X? LOLOL
I'm TOTALLY just kidding with ya!! : )
Welcome to the blog!
Thanks Lynyrd. I'll get out soon and buy the book "Railroading". Sounds really interested.
Now that's a cunundrum. With all this good reading to do, I won't have time to comment on this blog. HA HA HA.
Oops, I meant "sounds really interesting". LOL.
Katie said>>>
"With all this good reading to do, I won't have time to comment on this blog". HA HA HA.
Yeah, that's kinda what I'm worried about too! LOL
I have so little time.
We'll just do one chapter every week, as a new thread from "The Family"... (or, even every two weeks)LOL... and go from there.
Besides... I'm a slow reader. LOL
I always read like I'm gonna be tested afterwards... it's like, I gotta memorize every word. ... OCD, I guess.
I gotta learn to skim little bit. LOL
Everybody interested, grab a copy of "The Family", and when everyone's ready... I'll post the thread for chapter one. LOLOL
Peace...
BTW, thanks again Mary for the suggestion!
There's a statistics counter on the "administrators" "dashboard"... and so far, Mary's thread, and Katie's thread (Joel Pugh) have gotten more hits, than any other.
I'm not quite sure what that says about my ideas (LMAO)... but, evidently you guys have had good ideas... so, I'm gonna look at the cup as half full! hahaha
Fun! Your posts are great L/S...especially the Archie Bunker one. So, The Family it shall be.
X - any ideas where to buy the book you suggested...I have looked everywhere online and cannot locate it...see lots of reviews but no where to buy. Thanks!
Hi Bobby - I think we decided The Family.
Hey Bob!!
LOVE the avatar brother!!
We're going with "The Family" by Ed Sanders... to start.
To Everyone:
I've listed our "Book Club" officially, in the side-bar of the blog, write under my "blog greeting"... check it out!
Thanks Again Mary!
When everyone has a copy of the book... let me know, and I'll get this underay. : )
It might be worthy of mention:
This book has undergone a couple (if not a few) revisions and editions.
I really have no idea how significantly different the first edition is... from say the latest edition.
I figured I'd mention that.
I'll be reading the latest edition, with the red cover.
Hi Lynyrd, that's the one I have, with the red cover.
Hi everybody. I was just going to make a suggestion. These chapters are very short. We ought to do 2 or 3 chapters at a time. There are 116 chapters and if we spend an average of 3 days on each, that's 348 days. Let's say an average of 50 comments a day, that's 17,400 comments. LOL.
We might bust the seams of this blog. HA HA.
Ya know... I dug the book out of the bookshelf (DAMN I NEED TO DUST, LOL)...
and by-golly Katie's right! LOL
Some of these chapters, are LITERALLY two pages!
(my kinda book!) LOL... but, I digress.
We'll just do 20 pages at a whack.
Which, in this book, is anywhere from 3 to 7 chapters! LOL
GOOD OBSERVATION KATIE!!!
(The first three chapters are 22 pages... that oughtta keep us busy for a week)
Nothings written in stone.
If this takes-off, and I can't put it down... we'll upgrade to 30 pages a week.
Alright... the more I think about it, Katie's observation would apply across the board to any book... wouldn't it?
I mean, a chapter could be anywhere from 2 pages to 80 pages... depending on the book.
OK... forget chapters.
Let's determine the weekly discussion in terms of pages only... regardless of the book.
I can handle 20 pages a week.
LET'S GO WITH 20 PAGES A WEEK FOR DISCUSSION AS OUR GENERAL RULE OF AGREEMENT.
(Course... if the latest chapter ends at 22 or 23 pages, such as in this case... we'll just round it up, to finish the chapter. We'll round as high as 25. LOLOL)
Peace... Lynyrd
Crap... now I gotta change the side-bar explanation. LOLOL
So, we'll be reading/discussing "20 pages each week" (up to 25), instead of "a chpater"... cool.
...ok, things are now updated in the sidebar!
Thanks for bringing that to our attention Katie!
You are AWESOME Girl!!!
Love Ya... Lynyrd!
Okay thanks Lynyrd. That sounds good! I'm ready when everyone else is! Guys & gals, put your reading glasses on, and let the GAMES BEGIN!! HA HA HA.
(I'm talking to the "over 50" crowd. LOL)
HA HA. I love that picture of Squeaky. Pointing her forefinger up and middle finger down.
Is that a "flip off" in the Manson world??
HA HA HA.
Honestly Katie... I'm not sure.
The only time I've ever seen Lynn doing that, is (in photos) where she's wearing the red "Nuns" robe... or, as I like to call it, "The HOT little red riding hood" robe! LOL
I've seen Sandy (Blue) doing that in photos as well... but again, only when she's wearing the blue robe.
Maybe one of the more hard-core Manson followers could answer that question.
Katie's referring to the photo of Lynn, at the very bottom of the blog page.
I always just thought it meant "Lynyrd we love You"! LOLOL
It kinda looks like: "Don't f#ck with me" actually. LOLOL
I know we all like music. This about this:

Actually there's also a picture of Pat doing the a similar sign. I think it was some sign language they developed.
